The Essex Caledonian Pipe Band was formed in the mid 90s after the amalgamation and dissolutions of the Harwich, Brentwood and Red Hackle Pipe Bands.
One of the few bands in the South East to regularly take part in pipe band competitions, we consistently achieve high placings and good results, and have done so for many years, taking part in Grade 4, MSR and Grade 3 contests.
Being entirely self managed and funded, the band relies on a variety of public and private engagements, from fetes and carnivals through to weddings and military festivals. The income generated towards purchasing instruments, regular hire of a practice hall, uniforms and even drinks in the beer tent, although this is rarer than some might prefer!
The band prides itself on having a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and despite being a successful competition band, all the members know that it is primarily a social group, winning prizes is just the icing on the cake.
New members are always welcome, whether you’re a veteran player or a complete novice. We make a point to train anyone who is willing to put the work in, and if you’re dedicated enough, you’ll be out and playing with the band in no time.
